OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY

*Congratulations to the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Dive teams! 2017 NAIA National Champions*

Dedicated on December 12, 2012, Olivet Nazarene University’s Student Life and Recreation Center (SLRC), the newest building on campus, was designed from the start with energy saving features in mind. Designed by Buchar, Mitchell, Bajt Architects Inc. in conjunction with Elara Engineering, the new facility features an advanced geothermal heating and cooling system, a heat recovery ventilation system in the field house and an outdoor based dehumidification system for the aquatic center, among other cutting- edge systems. The TMI Salt Pure® systems mesh perfectly with all the other systems, giving focus to the ideals of efficiency and sustainability. The SLRC has a reduced impact on the environment by reducing the number of hazardous chemicals onsite, producing natural chlorine out of simple salt water and reducing Olivet’s reliance on trucked-in chemicals. Shortly after the dedication of the SLRC, it was recognized and honored by the local energy provider, Commonwealth Edison Company, for its sustainability and efficiency. The mission of the SLRC is to promote community life, student relationships, health, fitness and fun. The new 168,000-square-foot multi-use facility features a 72,000-square-foot field house, 200-meter running track, four-story climbing wall, workout facilities, large game area and several classrooms. One of the biggest attractions is the aquatic center, which includes the following with TMI equipment:

346,000-gallon, 10-lane competition pool with a constant depth of 2 meters – 2 3XLCGs

50,000-gallon resistance pool –  3XLCG

2,200-gallon, 10-seat whirlpool – XLCG

The SLRC also enhances the level of competition for Tiger Athletics, most significantly affecting men’s and women’s track and field and men’s and women’s swimming. The aquatic center featuring the TMI Salt Pure® systems is an asset to the swim team and aided in the successful completion of the team’s inaugural year, which ended with three individual national championships and 21 NAIA All-American athletes.
