Further Thoughts About UV

A common marketable feature of a UV system is that it will remove that chlorine odor in an indoor pool room, that can, at times, overwhelm guests with the odor seeping out to the reception area and the rest of the building.  The addition of a UV system can give the swimmers and patrons a fresh, clean smelling natatorium.

Combine it with a Salt Pure® system and you arguably have the most sustainable, safe and worry-free commercial pool water available.

When I embraced UV back in the early 2000’s it was relatively new on the market. The only pools that used UV where the large competition pools and those medium Pressure units where very complex and uber expensive.

As I mentioned in an earlier blog our company did a ton of research, attended World Aquatic Conferences, listening to learned folk, in the field such as Prof. Chip Blachly, and then went into field testing, before settling on Low Pressure UV as our core companion product to our commercial Salt Pure® system. The results, as reported, were stunning, and our clients very appreciative of the results, leading to backhand compliments like “the water is so clear now that I can see the plaster trowel lines in the deep end of the pool”

It is true that adding a properly sized salt system to a pool usually reduces chloramines to some extent but when adding a low-pressure UV system in most cases we were seeing dramatic reductions settling in at around 0.2ppm and in many cases, 0 ppm chloramines.  This equipment combination proved to be highly effective in reducing and in some cases almost eliminating chloramines.

Another important consideration that is often overlooked is the protection of one of the most expensive pieces of equipment in the pool room, the HVAC system. Effectively reducing chloramines protects metals in the entire pool room along with reducing corrosion of pricey HVAC systems.  A properly sized UV will also protect your swimmers by inactivating dangerous chlorine resistant pathogens like giardia and cryptosporidium.

When it comes to marketing your aquatic facility, this combination empowers you to supercharge your marketing and result in increased memberships, bathers and compliments.
