If you can get your hands on a 1920 copy of LIFE (I bought one as a collector’s item, sadly it has not appreciated much); you will see a 1 page black and white ad selling the digestive virtues of smoking an unfiltered Camel cigarette between meal courses, to aid in digestion. Wow! Today you would have to be 25 feet away from the same restaurants entrance if you want to smoke that cigarette. Add to that, smoking is not recommended anymore, especially unfiltered cigarettes.
What’s my point?
Well, when I started in this business of Salt Pure® pools ALL pool used traditional chlorine, that was the norm; today about 92% of new pools install a Salt system instead of using traditional chlorine. That is a heck of a change from 25 years ago, and I don’t see it going back.
That was residential. Commercially it has been more of an uphill battle. I have long realized that it is a much more complex decision to convert a large commercial pool over to “unproven” technology; the potential downsides held many facilities back, despite the overwhelming positive response from those that had made the change.
Then along came Covid. Yes it resulted in many more backyard pools (and Salt Pure® systems).
What it did for the commercial aquatic market was a game changer. The price of chlorine skyrocketed, in some place 300%. This took Salt Pure® from a luxury item to a product that is now on an economic parity with chlorine, while providing the owners, operators and swimmers, with a superior product.
Will tradition chlorine end up going the route of smoking, Roundup and DDT?
We believe it will, and have believed since we began this journey…and we certainly hope so.
